SUCCESS STORY | ALGERIAN NATIONAL TEAM | NUMBER FONT
THE CHALLENGE
We were asked by our customer KAM SPORT CONCEPT to create a bespoke custom jersey number font for the Algerian National Team to be produced in our ECOBLOCK BLACK quality, for the Africa Cup of Nations.
Aligned with CAF regulations
This font needed to feature the traditional colours of the Algerian Federation Crest and equally, their iconic trademark the “Fennec”, as the team is known as “The Fennecs” across the world of football. In addition, the font also had been aligned with the governing body CAF regulations.
THE SOLUTION
We opted to go for a solid font to be able to implement all the design features requested by our customer and also to ensure clear visibility for supporters in the stadium and the TV audience in attendance globally.
Rounding off the overall look of the jersey
By designing the font with an all-over base colour, in combination with a distinct outline, we managed to create a custom jersey number that displays two out of the three colours of the Algerian Flag, with the additional colour being presented by the fabric of the jersey. The Federations logo was portrayed in a clean and clearly visible way, by using the identical colour already featured in the outline
Barely visible but still distinct & iconic
The implementation of the “Fennec” as a full-colour solid print was clearly not an option, as this would have disrupted the number and would have had a massive impact on overall visibility. We therefore, had to become creative. Our design team came up with the idea to create a stylish, contour-based design element of the actual “Fennec” logo. This contour design, was printed using our special ECOBLOCK BLACK | MATT GLOSS finish across the base colour of the number, which was barely visible but featured this distinct icon.
THE RESULT
An extremely impressive looking font, based on a combination of traditional colours, created for both the Home and Away versions, with the Federation Logo clearly visible on the lower part of each number. By incorporating the “Fennec” trademark as a subtle design element, executed with our gloss effect across the number, did not only meet our customers’ expectations but also introduced additional proof of authenticity.
Successful jersey
It was great to see these numbers on the Algerian National Teams jerseys during the Africa Cup of Nations in 2019, from the very first match all the way to the final and Algeria ultimately winning the title and lifting the trophy.
